The California Digital Library (CDL) invites applications for the position of User Experience Design Manager.
Melvyl Accessibility Testing
As part of our quality assurance process in the upgrade of Melvyl from ALEPH v.15 to ALEPH v.16, CDL requested the UCLA's Disabilities and Computing Program to provide an accessibility audit of the Melvyl site. Many aspects of the Request site were also included in the review. The final report is now available.
Telnet Melvyl To Be Retired in Mid-August 2007
Later this summer, the Melvyl Catalog will be upgraded to a new version of the Ex Libris software and to a new Sun Solaris platform. As part of this process, the Telnet interface to Melvyl, which is little used by UC students, faculty and staff, will be retired when the new version of the Melvyl Catalog is moved into production in mid-August 2007.

UC campuses now have access to these electronic resources as part of CDL consortial licenses: Alloy Phase Diagram Center Online, Empire Online, Encyclopaedia of the Qur’ān, Encyclopedia of Women & Islamic Cultures, Everyday Life and Women in America, Latin American Data Base, Play Index, and Rand California.
Digital Preservation Program Update
This article provides a status report on the various projects of the Digital Preservation Program including the current status of the Digital Preservation Repository (DPR), information on the next release of the Web Archiving Service (WAS) and on NOID (Nice Opaque Identifier) software.

This article provides a status report on the UC/OCLC Pilot (or Next Generation Melvyl) Project including information on the task groups being formed, the planning process and an introduction to the University of Washington's WorldCat Local pilot that was just publicly launched.
