UC task groups and joint UC-OCLC workgroups have continued their inquiry and exploration and formed thoughtful, well reasoned recommendations aimed at creating an enhanced Next Generation Melvyl Pilot, supported by the WorldCat Local Service.

Telnet Melvyl Retired

The Telnet version of the Melvyl Catalog was retired on August 31, 2007. Users who desire the flexibility of command line searching can use the Command Search feature available on the web version of the Melvyl Catalog.

University of California Libraries Collaborate with OCLC on Next Generation Melvyl® Catalog

The University of California Libraries are working in collaboration with OCLC Online Computer Library Center to pilot a Next Generation Melvyl Catalog supported by OCLC's WorldCat Local system.

Melvyl Accessibility Testing

As part of our quality assurance process in the upgrade of Melvyl from ALEPH v.15 to ALEPH v.16, CDL requested the UCLA's Disabilities and Computing Program to provide an accessibility audit of the Melvyl site. Many aspects of the Request site were also included in the review. The final report is now available.

Telnet Melvyl To Be Retired in Mid-August 2007

Later this summer, the Melvyl Catalog will be upgraded to a new version of the Ex Libris software and to a new Sun Solaris platform.  As part of this process, the Telnet interface to Melvyl, which is little used by UC students, faculty and staff, will be retired when the new version of the Melvyl Catalog is moved into production in mid-August 2007.

Critical Information on UC/OCLC Pilot

This article provides a status report on the UC/OCLC Pilot (or Next Generation Melvyl) Project including information on the task groups being formed, the planning process and an introduction to the University of Washington's WorldCat Local pilot that was just publicly launched.

Melvyl Software/Hardware Upgrades

The Melvyl Catalog version 16.2 of the software is now projected to be released in late summer 2007. Work has been ongoing at the CDL to install copies of the software in multiple environments (development, staging, production); convert the user interface; reindex the catalog; and run quality assurance (QA) tests.
