Digital Preservation Community
New Michigan Digital Preservation Network (MDPN) LOCKSS Toolkit
MDPN shared its Statewide and Regional LOCKSS 2.0 Digital Preservation Network Implementation Toolkit with the digital preservation community. The Toolkit introduces “several reusable and adaptable resources across five focus areas – community formation, technical infrastructure, workflow development, governance, and outreach and training – that the MDPN and its members developed during the grant period.” It is intended to “help guide groups of collaborators seeking to build a new distributed digital preservation network or existing networks seeking guidance in one or more of the focus areas.”
What We’re Working On
Multiple Merritt microservices have now been containerized and are being orchestrated through use of Amazon Elastic Container Service (ECS)! These include the repository’s UI, Access, Audit and Inventory services. The Replication service will be next to migrate in June, and the primary Ingest and Storage services in July. Each Java service (all but the UI) needs to be able to shut down gracefully to allow for efficient autoscaling and the associated implementations are ongoing. They will allow ECS to increase and subsequently reduce the number of containers running a particular service without losing track of current operations and queue entries.
