Digital Preservation Community

European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) EDEN Project Launches a new Digital Preservation Survey

The EOSC EDEN project recently launched a survey focused on digital preservation practices across the global community. In their words, “We are keen to understand the existing frameworks, guidelines and practices for identification, selection and appraisal of data for ‘long-term’ preservation – and what ‘long term’ means in different organisational and professional settings.” The survey is open until June 30, 2025. You can learn more about the project on the EDEN site.

CoreTrustSeal v04.00 Requirements

CoreTrustSeal (CTS) is looking for input for their next revision of certification Requirements via the CTS Assembly of Reviewers. The forthcoming, revised requirements will take effect during 2026-2028. As part of the Assembly, a member of the Merritt team will be providing input on the associated CTS survey. If you’re curious to have a look at the current requirements, they are available here

What We’re Working On

The Merritt user interface now makes available additional fixity check information on a per-object basis. On any object landing page, click the “JSON version” link to the right of the breadcrumb trail under the object’s ARK. This results in polling the object_info endpoint. At the bottom of the JSON that’s returned is a fixity section which notes the latest fixity check status provided by Merritt’s Audit service at each cloud storage node. A unique_file_count is also provided to match against the file count displayed per node. If you have any questions about this new functionality, feel free to reach out to our team! Swagger documentation for the endpoint, as well as the local_id_search endpoint, which also provides this data is available.
