February 2025 Round Up of New Japanese Resources

Hōmushō Kyuzō Tōkyō Saibun, Sensō Saiban Kankei Shiryō 

法務省旧蔵東京裁判・戦争裁判関係資料
(Records of War Crime Tribunals: Mainly Related to Tokyo Trials, from the Former Archives of the Ministry of Justice)

This collection includes: “Over 360 volumes of compilations and related materials, investigation documents, collected materials, such as historical overviews produced by the Ministry of Justice, from Judicial System and Research Department research on war crimes trial material transferred from the Ministry of Justice to the National Archives.”

Shiryō Sanshū Phase 3

史料纂集 (Collected Historical Materials [3rd phase])

The UCs recently acquired Phase 3 of this collection, which includes additional content from the Muromachi and Sengoku periods. The purchase of Phase 3 builds off of Phase 1 & 2, which were purchased in 2024 for the UCs. Phase 3 adds 17 compilations of materials in a total of 62 volumes.

Tennō Kōzoku Jitsuroku Phase 3

 天皇皇族実録 (Records of the Emperor and the Imperial Family [3rd phase])

The UCs have acquired Phase 3 of this collection, building off of Phase 1 & 2 purchased last year. This collection overall covers historical materials of successive emperors and all imperial families up to the Edo period. Of the Tenno Kozoku Jitsuroku, Phase 3 specifically includes:

  • Vol.99 Emperor Ogimachi to Vol.135 and the supplementary volume Emperor Komei
