Merritt is a digital preservation repository from the University of California Curation Center (UC3) that enables the UC community to manage, archive, and share its valuable digital content.

Digital Preservation Community

CoreTrustSeal Endorses Canadian Research Data Repository Documentation Suite

The Board of CoreTrustSeal recently endorsed a certification-focused documentation suite put forth by Borealis, the Canadian Dataverse Repository; and the Digital Research Alliance of Canada’s (DRAC) Preservation Expert Group. The suite consists of policy templates “intended to support member institutions in pursuing certification as Trustworthy Data Repositories through CoreTrustSeal.” The templates address selection, deposit, curation, deaccession and retention, and preservation. Although templates in the suite are scoped to the Borealis service, they are in such form that will enable straightforward adoption for use by any interested institution. Template reuse is allowed via a CC-BY license.

What We’re Working On

As noted in our recent updates, many Merritt microservices have now been containerized and are being orchestrated through use of Amazon Elastic Container Service (ECS) and AWS Fargate! The team leveraged July to migrate Merritt’s Ingest and Storage services to our Stage environment. Additional features are being added to the Ingest, Storage and Inventory services during this time. They will support new methods of acquiring content from campus-based storage, including a direct authentication strategy as well as use of a proxy server through which Ingest service containers may download incoming content. Extensive testing will take place while the services reside in Stage and we are working with campus library and library IT staff to connect these to their local storage infrastructure.
