Oxford History of Western Music Moves to Oxford Academic
The UC campuses all have access to The Oxford History of Western Music, a collection of 5 reference works spanning the history of Western classical music from the sixteenth to the twentieth century, by musicologist Richard Taruskin. These works have moved from their previous standalone platform to the Oxford Academic platform on October 9, 2025.
The Oxford History of Western Music can now be found at:
- Volume 1: Music from the Earliest Notations to the Sixteenth Century https://academic.oup.com/book/60817
- Volume 2: Music In The Seventeenth And Eighteenth Centuries https://academic.oup.com/book/60818
- Volume 3: Music in the Nineteenth Century https://academic.oup.com/book/60831
- Volume 4: Music in the Early Twentieth Century https://academic.oup.com/book/60829
- Volume 5: Music in the Late Twentieth Century https://academic.oup.com/book/60819
The Oxford History of Western Music (previously found at: https://www.oxfordwesternmusic.com) no longer offers a unique landing page for the full collection at the Oxford Academic Platform. However, it is possible to create an advanced search that filters results to the five included books. The PID (176230) for this platform homepage has been deactivated. Individual book level URLs from the previous platform now redirect to the specific book at the Oxford Academic site, but the previous homepage URL does not.
