CDL Shared Collections contributions to new book
A new book, Standards and Best Practices on Data and Digital Resources, with contributions from Bie-hwa Ma and Shi Deng, former colleagues from the CDL Shared Cataloging Program, has been published recently. This was an output of an international collaboration project between Council on East Asian Libraries (CEAL) Committee on Electronic Resources Metadata Standards Best Practices (ERMB) and China Academic and Library Information System (CALIS)/Digital Resource Acquisition Alliance of Chinese Academic Libraries (DRAA), 2016-2021.
This project, initiated by Bie-hwa Ma, has over 30 dedicated volunteers from CEAL and CALIS, who have successfully translated 13 NISO standards and recommended practices into Chinese. Their efforts aim to introduce and promote American electronic resource standards and best practices in China. In addition, they conducted comprehensive research to survey the landscape in both China and North America, focusing on the formulation of standards and best practices while addressing challenges to enhance user experiences.
Bie-hwa Ma served as one of the project leaders on the CEAL side, while Shi Deng acted as the primary project contact point and one of the editors of the resulting publication. Both Bie-hwa and Shi made significant contributions to the translation of NISO standards and the writing of research articles.
