Highlights on Open Access
- JSC has approved CDL’s proposal to add individual OA monographs to the NZ that have been cataloged & submitted by campuses. CDL has implemented the request form and started to receive requests. CDL/SCP are working on our new workflow and updating our website.
- CDL/SCP also shared the draft request form for adding CalDocs titles that have been cataloged and submitted by campuses with the SCP-AC and the SILS RM operation subteam for campus input. It was developed based on an inquiry from a SCP-AC member.
- Behind the Scenes of the Civil Rights Movements: CDL/SCP has activated and cataloged this Reveal Digital open access collection. Other Reveal Digital collections managed by CDL ERT can also be found in UC Library Search: American Prison Newspapers, Black Periodicals, Documenting White Supremacy and its Opponents in the 1920s, HIV, AIDS, and the Arts, Independent Voices, Student Activism.
Highlights on Other Activities
- Taylor and Francis Journals Gap clean up: As January 1, 2025, Taylor & Francis will be aligning the backfile access with the terms of UC transformative agreement (2024-2027). We do not anticipate that this change will be highly disruptive as the content is primarily older and receives low use. Several CDL ERT staff have been working on aligning content availability in Alma with the actual availability of content on the Taylor & Francis platform.
- Springer 2024 & 2025 eBooks: CDL has finally reached agreement with Springer Nature on acceptable AI terms for the systemwide ebook license, enabling signing of the license for 2024-28. Access to 2024 & 2025 books is now available at the Springer platform. CDL staff are working on processing these packages for the catalog.
- Recruitment updates:
- Marcus Jun has accepted the position of Head of the CDL Shared Cataloging Program and will assume this role on February 10, working out of UCSD. He is currently the Institutional Repository Librarian at San Francisco State University. Shi Deng’s final day in her current role will be February 7, during which she will collaborate with Marcus to ensure a smooth transition.
- The Job posting for the Chinese Language Metadata Librarian (member of the Shared Cataloging Program; position previously held by Bie-Hwa Ma) is available at: https://apol-recruit.ucsd.edu/JPF04165. Review applications will start after January 27, 2025.
