Changes to Several Database Subscriptions (June 2023)

Russian Academy of Sciences Bibliographies

In May 2023, Ebsco Information Services announced the decommissioning of the database Russian Academy of Sciences Bibliographies, with access ceasing at the end of our current subscription term, the end of June 2023. At this time, they have no plans to bring this database back in the future. This database was accessible to all UC campuses through the set of resources CDL packaged as “RLG Reference Resources.” The rest of the databases that come with this order are not impacted and will remain accessible.

Earlier in 2023, Ebsco noted on their website that they were suspending business operations with Russia & Belarus and removing content published by Russian and Belarussian entities from their platform. Any books purchased with perpetual access will remain accessible to customers. CDL has confirmed with Ebsco that of the journal content removed from Ebsco databases, a small percentage were in UC-subscribed databases, and the majority of the removed content is open access online, with about 40 removed journals not open access.

Superstar Journals Database

Seven UC campuses subscribed to Superstar Journals Database (UCB, UCD, UCI, UCLA, UCM, UCR, UCSD).  This tier 2 subscription has been canceled by the participating campuses, with the term ending May 2023.  Questions can be directed to the Tier 2 liaison, Susan Xue (sxue@library.berkeley.edu)

Index of Medieval Art

Princeton University has announced that the Index of Medieval Art database becomes fully open access beginning July 1, 2023, thanks to grant funding they have received in support. This database, previously subscribed to by six campuses (UCB, UCI, UCLA, UCSD, UCSB, UCSC) will now be available freely on the web to all users.

The publisher has announced that they will host instructional sessions in the coming months, with the first session taking place in August 2023. More information can be found at their website.
