Melvyl Enhancements: Availability on Brief and Call Numbers in Lists

In their latest installation of enhancements, OCLC fixed a bug where call numbers were not appearing in saved lists. In order to take advantage of this fix, it was necessary to turn on the Availability on Brief (AoB) record display for the campus UC Melvyl (WorldCat Local) instances.

To see the local call number in the search results, click the Availability link in the Brief record display. See below. The Availability link will only appear for locally held items and only for items in the WorldCat database: Books and Journals, but not articles.

Note: The union Melvyl WCL instance (http://melvyl.worldcat.org) does not display Availability on the Brief records or retain call numbers for records saved into Lists. Only the campus Melvyl instances (e.g., Melvyl @ UC San Diego) include these enhancements.

OCLC brought in one enhancement to WorldCat Local impacting Melvyl on August 7, 2014, described below.

The running list of release notes can be found at http://www.cdlib.org/services/d2d/melvyl/public/. (Note that many of these do not have an impact on Melvyl.)

Bug Fix: Call numbers displaying on lists

OCLC resolved an issue with call numbers not (or not consistently) displaying on lists.

NOTE: Any record previously added to a list may have to be removed and added again to pick up the call number, where available.
