Next Generation Melvyl Pilot Enhancements – February 2011

There is one item that improves the user experience in the Next Generation Melvyl (NGM) Pilot as a result of OCLC’s Sunday, February 13, 2011 install.  Other enhancements have a positive impact on Local Holdings Record (LHR) displays and links and LHR Data display.   The UC libraries have not yet implemented these in NGM, but will in the future.

508, 511, 518 fields

OCLC is now displaying MARC fields 508 (Creation/Production Credits Note), 511 (Participant or Performer Note) and 518 (Date/Time and Place of an Event Note) from the master bib record on the detailed record.    These fields impact records describing films, music, performers, theater performances, etc. and provide the user with fuller information about an item.   (Note: Some sporadic problems with this aspect of the install will be corrected on the evening of February 23.)
