Next Generation Melvyl Pilot Enhancements – May 2010
By Ellen Meltzer, Information Services Manager
Two enhancements appear in the Next Generation Melvyl (NGM) Pilot as a result of OCLC’s Sunday, May 23 install. The improvements include:
- A change to the global header: the Library custom web links at the top left of the NGM screen (where Home, Search and library name, e.g. UC Irvine Libraries, are found) will be interchanged so that the name of the library now appears at the far left, Search is next, and the label “Home” has been transformed to “WorldCat” at the right. (See attached for illustration.)
- Updates to the WorldCat cite/export feature: Updates to APA 6th edition and MLA 7th edition will be made as well as the ability to export an item to EasyBib, coming shortly. (EasyBib provides a simple, easy and free way to create bibliographies and get citations, automatically. When a user searches for a book, EasyBib uses the WorldCat Search API to search by book title, keyword or ISBN. It then gives the user the chance to find out more about this source and find the item in a local library by linking to WorldCat.org results.)
Other changes described in this PDF (http://libraries.universityofcalifornia.edu/about/oclc_docs/20100516_Install_Update_Notice.pdf) do not currently have an impact on UC’s implementation of WorldCat Local.
