Next Generation Melvyl Pilot Enhancements – December 13, 2009
By Ellen Meltzer, CDL Information Services Manager
Two enhancements were made to the Next Generation Melvyl Pilot with OCLC’s Sunday, December 13 install. The changes include:
- When sorting editions, a new option has been added to sort by “Library” allowing users to see what other editions are held by their library. (The default sort is publication date.) A “year” facet was also added to the editions page to allow users to easily refine their results by publication year.
- The use of more consistent terminology in labels and making library location stand out more prominently through the use of highlighting and color.
Two other changes described in the PDF (http://libraries.universityofcalifornia.edu/about/oclc_docs/Dec_Install_Update_Notice20091213_5_.pdf) (Redirect to WorldCat local from the WorldCat.org and Enhanced ‘Library Type’ Filter on Library Search Results Page) were not incorporated in this month’s installation.
Under separate cover, OCLC announced that Chat functionality is now available to institutions with WorldCat Local subscriptions. Institutions that have a Questionpoint Qwidget (Ask A Librarian) or other chat clients will now be able to provide their users with the opportunity to chat directly with a librarian from within WorldCat Local. This functionality will be tested, and then discussed by the Heads of Public Services (HOPS) before implementation.
