New Streaming Videos: CathayPlay

Several UC campuses now have subscription access to a new Chinese streaming video platform called CathayPlay. 

CathayPlay, having launched in 2019, is new to working with North American libraries, and our UC campuses are excited to have access to this database. The collection includes access to over 1,000 streaming videos celebrating Chinese independent cinema. With a commitment to diversity, their platform offers browsing by category of film, including categories such as Female Director and LGBTQIA+.   The interface of the platform is in English. The films themselves are in Chinese and most have English subtitles. 

Participating campuses in this new Tier 2 subscription include: UC Berkeley (with access for Lawrence Berkeley Lab), UC Irvine, UCLA, and UC San Diego

CDL will be adding this database to the catalog soon. SCP catalogers are also investigating the possibility of title level cataloging for the videos with the vendor.
