Ethnomusicology Archive Records Added to Melvyl

Working with UCLA Library and CDL staff, OCLC added a second UCLA Library with a separate ILS, the Ethnomusicology Archive, to Melvyl as of January 22, 2014.  The first added was UCLA’s Film and Television Archive (FATA) in November 2010.  UCB’s Law library was added in March 2013, and UCSF’s Mt. Zion Library is in the works.

Founded in 1961, the UCLA Ethnomusicology Archive is one of the largest “world music” media archives in North America and includes traditional, folk, popular, and art music from Africa, Asia, Australia and the Pacific islands, Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas.  The communities of Southern California, international researchers, and UCLA students and faculty can explore the rich variety of musical expressions throughout the world. As part of the University of California and as an institution located within the state, the Archive has a special interest in collecting and preserving the music of California and in collaborating with community partners. The Archive also hosts monthly screenings from musicians and scholars.

For UCLA, the Ethnomusicology Archive records will appear under Level One holdings at UCLA under “Find a copy in the Library.”

For other UCs, the records will appear under Level Two, University of California Libraries.  The records can also be found under WorldCat, “Find it in libraries globally.”
