CDL fully funded the German database on behalf of all campuses at the request of the European History, Languages and Literature bibliographer group which ranked it as their top priority.

De Gruyter’s new research database “German Literary Expressionism Online” makes approximately 150 journals, yearbooks, collections and anthologies from the early 20th century available in digital fulltext. The database provides a unique body of text for research of the German expressionist movement.

The journals, yearbooks, collections and anthologies of literary expressionism serve not only as a source on German literature of the Modern era, but can also be used for the study of the history of art, theatre, film, dance and music between 1910 and 1930. They are a unique body of contemporary historical evidence.

Content of the database:

  • 150 journals, yearbooks, collections and anthologies from the early 20th century as fully searchable digital facsimile copies
  • More than 2,500 issues in full text
  • 40,000 indexed articles from more than 5,000 contributors
