WEST Internet Archive Pilot – Report and Recommendations Now Available!

Last Fall (2024), WEST launched a pilot with the Internet Archive and six WEST member libraries to amplify and support library collaborative strategies for print collection management and preservation. Specifically, the pilot involved coordinating the donation of duplicate copies of WEST archived titles to the Internet Archive to expand digitization and access via RapidILL for print serials. You can read more about the history of this pilot, and see a full timeline, here: https://cdlib.org/west/about-west/west-pilots-and-projects/ia-pilot/

Now, we are very happy to announce that the final WEST Internet Archive Pilot Report  is available for all to read!

While the work isn’t yet done, we did want to take this time to give a huge thank you to all of the pilot participants:

  • Liz Rosenberg (Internet Archive)
  • Michael Brewer, Liz Miller, & Niamh Wallace (University of Arizona)
  • Jo Anne Newyear-Ramirez & Jesse Silva (UC Berkeley)
  • Jamie Markus & Nelia Koontz (University of Wyoming)
  • Michele Potter (UC Riverside)
  • Yumin Jiang, Laura Riley, & Wendy Kisicki (University of Colorado, Denver, Strauss Health Sciences Library)
  • Gabby Wiersma & Claire Hoag (University of Colorado Boulder)

Their work on this pilot will not only result in over 9,000 WEST Archived titles becoming digitally available for Interlibrary Loan via the Internet Archive, but also informed recommendations that will be impactful across WEST as we work to operationalize this pilot. Thank you!
