A Fond Farewell to CDL’s Judy Dobry

When Judy Dobry, CDL’s Discovery and Delivery Technical Team Manager, came to CDL, she brought with her three library cards, a promise made at her interview presentation to “bring sexy back” to discovery and delivery systems and experience building 10 IT systems for every type of organization except libraries. Luckily, she immediately discovered the vast generosity of her new library colleagues, in CDL’s Discovery and Delivery unit, in the rest of CDL, at the UC libraries and at libraries around the world. Over the next nine years she worked with those colleagues to improve the academic library ebook reading experience, to make library metadata a resource for all, to use AI to serve libraries, to bring Agile to library projects and to leverage the best of computer science to create and improve library systems. In addition, as an individual contributor, she created many paper bag based costumes for CDL’s world-renowned Halloween costume competition. As she retires from the University, she leaves with many happy memories of working with colleagues on the Palace Project, Project LEND, the Partnership for Shared Collections, the Western Regional Storage Trust, the CCH Collab, HathiTrust, CRL and, most of all, UC Libraries and CDL.
