Deselection Deep Dive: YOUR Journal Review Story

Last summer, WEST Executive Committee and Operations and Collections Council members gathered in person and online for a hybrid meeting to continue Future of WEST planning following the 2023 Future of WEST Report. One of the outcomes of this meeting was that it would be beneficial to showcase members’ specific journal review stories, to highlight one way that members are employing WEST in managing their collections, and hopefully inspire others to make the most of their membership in WEST. We also hope that by creating a platform for this information to be widely shared, we can create points of reference that support individual libraries in presenting deselection projects as more than just recycling print collections; rather, as strategically reorganizing print collections within an ecosystem of trusted partner libraries.

To this end, WEST is pleased to announce that we are kicking off a series of blog posts all about WEST member deselection projects! You can read the first one, about the Graduate Theological Union’s recent library alteration project, here: https://cdlib.org/cdlinfo/2025/04/29/deselection-deep-dive-graduate-theological-unions-library-alteration-project/

Our goal is to publish one of these stories every other month, each time highlighting a different WEST member. If you are interested in sharing your own library’s journal review story please reach out to WEST Analyst, Nika Burns Teshin (nika.worth@ucop.edu) for more information and to get started!
