Recent Transitions

  • The National Philosophy and Social Sciences Database (NSSD, https://www.nssd.cn/) has moved content to its new domain, at the National Center for Philosophy and Social Sciences Documentation (NCPSSD, https://www.ncpssd.cn) website. As a reminder, this is a free resource, although the UCs have their IPs on file with the vendor. The benefit of this is that users will not be required to create a free account to download full text materials when coming from an authorized IP address.  CDL has updated the collections in the NZ.
  • SCP staff added 3,622 new portfolios to the Network Zone for the UC Davis Palace Project pilot study.

Highlights on Other Activities:

  • CDL is working on a reconciliation project for older Taylor & Francis ebooks from 2012 & prior, which have recently been added in a new collection the NZ. Most of these titles duplicate existing portfolios for T&F ebooks; we are still working through the clean up and reorganization of these titles. We will keep campuses informed of the progress.
  • CDL staff are working with Newsbank to review and update the holdings that come with our Access World News subscription package, and we will update campuses when changes are made in the NZ.
  • Recruitment updates:
    • Finalist interviews for the Head of the CDL Shared Cataloging Program were completed in November.
    • The Job posting for the Chinese Language Metadata Librarian (member of the Shared Cataloging Program; position previously held by Bie-Hwa Ma) is available at: https://apol-recruit.ucsd.edu/JPF04165 Recruitment will begin in early 2025.
  • Campus library reminders: Campus staff can submit requests for open access collection activation from the CZ using the existing form for requests for cataloging collections.
