Cycle 13 (2024) Collection Comparison Reports Now Available
One of the many benefits of WEST membership is the regular collection analysis that feeds our archiving activity; we also share the results of our analysis with members in yearly collection comparison reports as well as the On Demand Comparison tool, both of which can be used to support local collection management projects.
WEST is pleased to announce that the thirteenth archiving cycle disclosure process is complete, and the Cycle 13 (2024) annual collection comparison reports are now available for WEST members to download in AGUA. These reports were generated for each member that submitted a file of records for the Cycle 13 collections analysis in 2023. All members also have access, at any time, to the All Archived Titles Report and On Demand Collection Comparison report in AGUA. The WEST AGUA User Manual includes detailed instructions for using these pages.
Additionally, beginning this year we are making Metadata Validation Reports available under your, “My Institution’s Reports” section on AGUA. These reports highlight areas where your holdings data had a discrepancy with WorldCat holdings data, and can serve as a starting point for any data remediation efforts your institution would like to engage in. Note that in some cases reported “errors” are merely an outcome of local practice, and so won’t warrant correction. These are informational reports only and no action is required from your institution.
Congratulations and thank you all for another great year, and many thanks to the AGUA Development Team who produced these reports! Read on below for information about the reports available to your institution and how to access them.
Collection Comparison Reports
If your institution provided records for analysis in 2023, a custom collection comparison report has been prepared for you and is available for download in AGUA, WEST’s information center.
To create the collection comparison reports, we compare each library’s holdings against the WEST archived titles. The 2024 institution-specific reports list all titles held locally that have also been archived by WEST (in Cycles 1-13). Please note: if your library also serves as an archive holder, your report will not list the titles that your institution has archived locally.
Validation Reports
If your institution submitted disclosures for the current cycle then you will have access to your institution’s Metadata Validation Reports. These reports highlight areas where your holdings data had a discrepancy with WorldCat holdings data, and can serve as a starting point for any data remediation efforts your institution would like to engage in. Note that in some cases reported “errors” are merely an outcome of local practice, and so won’t warrant correction. These reports are informational and no action is required on your part
On Demand Comparison Report
All members have access to the On Demand Collection Comparison report – a capability that allows you to generate a comparison any time of year (not just at the end of the archive cycle) and specify to the journals you want to review locally. Instructions for the On Demand Report are available in Appendix 1 of the AGUA User Manual.
All Archived Titles Report
If you would like to view a complete list of WEST archived titles, you can also download the WEST All Archived Titles report in AGUA.
MARC File of WEST Archived Titles
Finally, WEST members may also download a file of all WEST archived titles to load into their local catalog for more seamless discovery by their users. This .mrc file includes bibliographic records with embedded holdings.
