WEST Program Refresher

On January 19 WEST hosted an hour-long webinar that provided a refresher on the WEST program and an info session on WEST Archiving.

The first half of the webinar covered the history of WEST as well as the vision, mission, and principles, key features of the program, and overviews of WEST members and their roles, how WEST is governed, and WEST’s external collaborations with key partners that extend our work at a national scale. Attendees learned about the progress that three WEST working groups have made reviewing and updating WEST policies and identifying potential new types of collections for WEST to consider as it grows and evolves.

The second half of the webinar provided a brief overview and comparison of WEST’s three Archive Types and the progress WEST members have made so far preserving journal and serial titles under this model, as well as an overview of the collection analysis and archiving steps and timeline and the new analysis and archiving priorities WEST has set for the upcoming Cycles 12 & 13 to identify scarce and unique materials and ensure they are protected and available for current and future scholars. All WEST members participating in the analysis are encouraged to participate as Archive Holders to help WEST identify these at-risk materials.

The recording and presentation slide deck are now available in the Webinars section of the Documents & Presentations page of the WEST website: https://cdlib.org/west/about-west/documents-presentations/#webinars
