OCLC Webinar Recording Available – Shared Print Registration and Discovery: New Tools, Services, and Support for Libraries
In late May 2020 OCLC and the Center for Research Libraries unveiled enhancements to the shared print infrastructure that were collaboratively developed with the financial support of a Mellon Foundation grant. On June 17 OCLC hosted a webinar to introduce the wider shared print community to the enhancements and provide an overview of the new tools and workflows. Among the topics covered are how to register commitments using WorldShare, the different options available for submitting commitments for registration, how data will be synced between OCLC WorldCat and PAPR, and what shared print information is available via the updated OCLC Metadata API version 1.1. The recording and slide deck for this presentation are now available on OCLC’s website:
As a reminder, WEST is requesting that members not register their WEST commitments via this new service at this time. WEST is continuing to test this service to ensure its compatibility with WEST disclosure requirements, and is working to identify an optimal workflow to recommend members use. Once that work, as well as the work the Disclosure & Validation Standards and Resource Sharing Working Groups is currently doing investigating the uses and functions of the shared print second symbol and how workflows might be affected if shared print holdings were to be migrated to the archiver’s main symbol, is completed, WEST will work with OCLC, CRL, and WEST member institutions to begin the registration process. If you have any questions about the new registration service, the testing, or the issues the working groups are discussing, please reach out to Alison Wohlers (alison.wohlers@ucop.edu) and Anna Striker (anna.striker@ucop.edu).
