Call for Volunteers for WEST 2020 Working Groups –Disclosure & Validation Standards and Resource Sharing

At the 2019 WEST Strategic Planning Session, WEST governance committee members created a set of strategic recommendations to guide WEST through the coming years. Among the recommendations were to create a number of working groups to review and investigate specific questions for WEST’s operations in the coming years. The WEST project team and Operations and Collections Council have crafted charges for two of these working groups, and are soliciting volunteers to help review, discuss, and revise WEST policies and practices for disclosure and validation standards and for resource sharing within WEST to update them for local needs and national practices. WEST is calling for volunteers to serve as full members for the duration of the charge as well as volunteers to serve as ‘consultants’ on specific topics of interest. We are also seeking a limited number of volunteers to serve on both working groups to ensure direct communication and information sharing between the two on appropriate topics.

Disclosure and Validation Standards Working Group: Review current WEST disclosure policy and validation standards and recommend updates. Collection managers and staff who operationalize archiving standards for disclosure and validation are especially encouraged to volunteer. Please read the full charge for functional areas that are of particular interest for this group, tasks that members will be asked to undertake, deliverables, and estimated time commitments.

Resource Sharing Working Group: Review current WEST access, borrowing, and lending guidelines and recommend updates. Staff involved in both strategic and daily resource sharing activities are especially encouraged to volunteer. Please read the full charge for functional areas that are of particular interest for this group, tasks that members will be asked to undertake, deliverables, and estimated time commitments. Additionally, this group is seeking a convener who is well acquainted with WEST policies and practices.
