Upcoming Refresher Webinars for WEST Members – May and June

There are some great opportunities coming up to refresh your WEST know-how, whether you are new to WEST activities or an old-hand at this!

First, coming up on May 15 from 11am-12pm PT (2-3pm ET) is a Journal Retention and Needs Listing (JRNL) Tool Demo.

WEST subscribes to this tool and any WEST member may request an account to further facilitate their local journal review projects.

The JRNL software allows libraries to expose lists of print journals for which they have made retention commitments, and to express needs (or gaps) in their holdings. Furthermore, the JRNL tool supports automated messaging to connect institutions across programs in the needs and offers process. This tool is particularly valuable to WEST for its capacity to connect our members to institutions in Rosemont Alliance partner programs (FLARE, Scholars Trust, and BTAA). JRNL program staff will be on hand to answer your questions.

After disclosure for Cycle 8 takes place in May and June, pre-formatted extracts will be made available through AGUA for WEST Archivers to load into JRNL to expose gaps and organize communication around offers.

Please register if you would like to attend:  https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/3529587754667223299

After registering you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.  The session will be recorded for later playback.

The WEST Project Team will also be hosting two WEST Program Refresher webinars – one at the end of May and a second in the beginning of June.

WEST Program Refreshers will include an overview of the history of WEST, its membership and governance, collection and operational models, participation in the Rosemont Shared Print Alliance, and the various ways that members can use available WEST-supported tools for local needs and participate in building the collective collection! There will be a portion of the webinar devoted to Q&A, but questions and discussion will be welcome throughout. Please feel free to send requests for areas to highlight during the webinar to WEST’s program manager, Alison Wohlers (alison.wohlers@ucop.edu).
