CDL Job Opportunity: Metadata Product Manager (career position)
The California Digital Library (CDL) is a collaborative effort of the ten campuses of the University of California. As a UC systemwide library, CDL provides services to and on behalf of the UC system in partnership with the UC campus libraries. As a globally-connected digital library, CDL occupies a unique position between the local UC campuses and the global digital library infrastructure. The primary user base for CDL services and programs includes UC faculty, students, and library staff. The CDL is a unit within the UC Office of the President, has a staff of 70+ and is located in downtown Oakland.
About the Metadata Product Manager position:
The Metadata Product Manager provides product management and metadata strategy experience in support of the CDL’s Discovery & Delivery (D2D) program goals. In close coordination with D2D leadership, the Metadata Product Manager leads a team of developers and analysts; assumes overall product management responsibility for Zephir, a custom metadata management service provided to the HathiTrust Digital Library; assesses and advises on metadata strategies for consortial data workflows and data integrity, collection analysis, and discovery and delivery services; collaborates with CDL product managers, service owners, leadership, and with analysts and other staff in organizations external to CDL, such as vendors and cross-institutional partnerships, to achieve D2D goals; maintains awareness of new technology and digital library industry trends; and identifies opportunities for improvement of current services, or the creation of new services based on a deep commitment to addressing stakeholder and end user needs.
The Metadata Product Manager works closely on:
- Zephir; metadata management system for the 15 million+ volume Hathi Trust digital library
- HathiTrust and other digital library partners
- dataflows and workflows in a system-wide UC environment
- Linked data projects
- Development of local, national and international metadata standards
