Wendy Parfrey retires in January
Wendy Parfrey, CDL’s Shared Content Coordinator and stalwart participant of CDL’s licensing and negotiations team, will be retiring on January 31, 2018.
After twenty years with sales and marketing positions in the publishing industry (Pearson, Elsevier, Gale, Dialog and several software companies), Wendy joined CDL in 2003 and since then has used her business experience “on the other side” to negotiate, on behalf of the University system, with vendors over a wide range of issues – business models, technical aspects, and other terms – in the acquisition of scholarly content.
Over the last 15 years, UC has benefited from significant cost savings on licensed resources thanks to Wendy’s excellent negotiation skills. Among her other responsibilities, Wendy prepared proposals and other documents for the Shared Content Leadership Group (SCLG) and the Joint Steering Committee on Shared Collections (JSC).
Wendy was a regular presenter at Resource Liaison and User Council meetings and was adept at making complicated aspects of negotiation and licensing clearer. Most recently, Wendy has been coordinating the work of the DDA (Demand Driven Acquisitions) Task Force as the various DDA pilot programs have been rolled out.
Wendy kindly offered to help CDL get ready for the major negotiations in 2018 in her last weeks.
Please join CDL in wishing Wendy all the best in her retirement.
