Shared Cataloging Program (SCP) Monthly Update: April 2017
For the month of March, our major serial record distributions include Gale Literature Resource Center online journals (27 titles), Open Access journals (147 titles which include: DOAJ, 66 titles; PubMed Central online journals, 48 titles). Also 35 titles of EBSCO journals were removed.
For monographs, the major record distributions are: Cambridge online monographs (120 titles), CRC Press monographs (90 titles, which include: ENGnetBASE online monographs DDA 2016, 50 titles), ICPSR online datasets (152 titles), IEEE Xplore online conference proceedings (136 titles), JSTOR online monographs (102 titles, which include: CDL DDA pilot online monographs, 89 titles), Naxos audio (2341 titles, which include: Jazz, 485 titles), Royal Society of Chemistry online monographs (61 titles), SpringerLink monographs (264 titles, which include: Biomedical and life sciences, 43 titles; Chemistry and materials science, 36 titles; Computer science, 54 titles; Mathematics and statistics, 62 titles; Medicine, 24 titles; and Professional and applied computing, 37 titles), Wiley online monographs (100 titles), Airiti online monographs (72 titles), and Superstar. Chinamaxx online monographs phase 1 (144 titles). Also 54 titles of Airiti PDA monographs were removed.
For DDA programs, as of today, 925 titles available from the CRC Press ENGnetBASE online monographs DDA: 2014 package (292 titles), 2015 package (352 titles), 2016 package (281 titles); 2,327 titles from the EBSCO Japanese DDA, 472 titles available from the JSTOR CDL DDA pilot, and 1,966 titles from the Airiti DDA. As of this date, we have recorded 168 purchases from the CRC Press ENGnetBASE for year 2013 (104 titles) & 2014 (64 titles), 198 from the EBSCO Japanese, 17 from the JSTOR and 272 from the Airiti.
Starting January 2017, SCP posts monthly record distribution statistics reports instead of quarterly. The monthly reports present all packages being cataloged in a given month. For example, anyone can check the March report [XLS] on cataloging status of a particular package that is not mentioned above in this update.
SCP recruitment update: Donal O’Sullivan accepted SCP E-package and ETL Specialist position, starting April 1, 2017. In his new capacity, Donal will have lead responsibility for e-package management, developing and employing processes for large scale data manipulation and transformation for the creation of bibliographic records, and for bibliographic record maintenance. He will also serve as the backup ETL (Extraction, transformation, and loading) specialist for the synchronization and exchange of MARC data between the Shared Cataloging Program and the ten UC campus libraries. Donal has been working at the UC San Diego Library since 1999. He held the positions of Serial specialist and then Documents Ordering & Receiving Specialist in the Acquisitions Department. Since 2006, he has been working in the Shared Cataloging Program as the Principal Monographs Metadata specialist, developing and applying batch processing techniques, system macros, and other process that automate cataloging resources, as well as performing original and copy cataloging of electronic monographs and serials.
