Melvyl & FirstSearch transition to WorldCat Discovery rescheduled to June 2016

OCLC’s latest roadmap for WorldCat Discovery (WCD) development indicates that parity with the existing FirstSearch and WorldCat Local interfaces will not happen until spring 2016.  Additionally, CDL continues to work with OCLC to resolve a few remaining issues where WCD is still not at parity with the UC WorldCat Local instances.

Consequently, UC libraries will not be switching over to WorldCat Discovery any sooner than June 2016.  Campus staff should continue to focus instructional materials and training on the existing WorldCat Local Melvyl and FirstSearch for the fall and spring quarter and semester.

To prepare for the eventual transition:

  • Try WorldCat Discovery and report any problems or general feedback directly to CDL at melvylops@cdlib.org. Use these links to WorldCat Discovery beta sites for each UC campus.
  • Get a Melvyl staff account for enhanced functionality including the ability to view MARC records. See instructions on how to get a Melvyl staff account.
