Melvyl & FirstSearch transition to WorldCat Discovery delayed

CDL has confirmed with OCLC that development work we are awaiting will not be done this summer. WorldCat Discovery is not yet at functional parity with WorldCat Local Melvyl, so UC libraries will not be switching over to WorldCat Discovery any sooner than December 2015.

This means campuses should continue to focus instructional materials and training on the existing WorldCat Local Melvyl and FirstSearch for the fall quarter and semester.

In the meantime, here’s what campus staff can do to prepare for the eventual transition:

  • Try WorldCat Discovery and report any problems or general feedback directly to CDL at melvylops@cdlib.org. Use these links to WorldCat Discovery beta sites for each UC campus.
  • Get a Melvyl staff account for enhanced functionality including the ability to view MARC records. See instructions on how to get a Melvyl staff account.

For additional information, see our recent article on what it means to make the switch to WorldCat Discovery and what happens to FirstSearch.

For the latest information, see the CDL WorldCat Discovery Beta website.
