Introducing the New Interlibrary Courier Service and the New ILL Courier Operations Team

The Interlibrary Loan (ILL) units of the UC Libraries have a new courier service that started August 7, 2014. We are once again working with Tricor Courier & Cargo Service, which previously served the UC Libraries until November 2011.

The courier service for the UC Libraries is an important lifeline for faculty, students, and staff. It allows the campuses to efficiently borrow and lend items regardless of where they are physically located. The courier picks up and delivers items at the campuses and Regional Library Facilities five days a week. The Interlibrary Loan unit on each campus then quickly routes the needed item to the appropriate location for patron pickup.

This change was a joint effort of the ILL Courier Operations Team, Strategic Action Group 2 (SAG2), UCLA Purchasing, and individual ILL staff members. Headed by SAG2 members Patricia Martin of CDL, Lynne Grigsby of UCB, and Kristine Ferry of UCI, these groups worked together to send out a Request for Proposal (RFP), evaluate the bids, award the work, ensure a signed contract and Service Level Agreement, and confirm the route structure with Tricor management.

The ILL Courier Operations Team, reporting to SAG2, manages the ongoing relationship with Tricor, meeting with them weekly to review issues, make route changes, and ensure high quality service. It is composed of ILL Courier Operations Team Leader Sarah Troy (UCSC), Courier Coordinator Andy Panado (UCSF), and Customer Service Advisor Leslie Wolf (CDL).

The ILL Courier Operations Team membership will change as of September 22, 2014. The ILL Courier Operations Team Leader will be Patrick Shannon (UCB) and the Courier Coordinator will be Sahra Missaghieh Klawitter (UCR).
