Joan Gargano and Patrick Newell to depart the CDL

Joan Gargano, Director of CDL Technologies, has accepted an exciting offer to become CIO at a startup company in private industry based in Boulder, Colorado.  Joan’s leadership of the CDL Technologies staff, and contribution to CDL planning and development, as well as to UC’s Office of the President technology planning, has been invaluable, and she will be sorely missed.

Joan is working with University Librarian Richard Lucier and Acting Associate Vice President for Information Resources and Communications Jim Dolgonas, to assist with a transition plan to new leadership for CDL-T.  The recruitment for Joan’s replacement is already underway and every effort is being made to place a strong digital library technology leader in this key position as soon as possible.

Patrick Newell, Special Assistant to the University Librarian for Strategic Projects, has decided to pursue an exciting opportunity as the Associate Director for Digital Operations at the New York Academy of Medicine in New York City.  His last day with the CDL will be Wednesday, September 8, 1999.

Patrick has been a valuable member of the CDL team from the beginning.  The CDL has relied on his expertise, strong work ethic, and good humor to help us meet the daily challenges we face in building a new enterprise.

Please join us in congratulating and wishing both Joan and Patrick well in what will surely be great adventures for them both.
