Shared Print Round-Up: Q3 2025

Happy Fall! Over the last quarter we’ve had several exciting updates, webinars, and articles from community members across shared print! Below is a roundup of shared print news and events from July through October.

Late July, WEST held our annual member meeting for 2025. The topic this year was:  Why WEST Now? Protecting our foundations in times of turmoil and uncertainty. A recap post, along with links to the recording and slides, is available here: 2025 WEST Member Meeting Recap: Why WEST Now? Protecting our foundations in times of turmoil and uncertainty

In August, a new report came out from Ithaka looking at the current state of scholarly monograph publishing in humanities and social sciences. Part of the research for this report looked at the current and future role of print for academic libraries, authors, and readers, a topic which is closely connected with the work we do in the shared print community. You can read the report here: The Current State of Academic E- Book Business Models | Ithaka S+R. Or check out the Scholarly Kitchen article about the report by Tracy Bergstrom, program manager for libraries, scholarly communication, and museums within Ithaka S+R.

In mid September, CRL held two webinars to update the community about a new AI project underway. The project is aimed at addressing the high resource needs of creating item-level metadata using out of the box AI tools. If you missed the webinar you can read about the pilot in their August announcement: CRL Pilots AI to Accelerate Metadata Production

Finally, at the end of September, HathiTrust announced the launch of a new Resource Sharing Pilot. The pilot will inform refinement of technical infrastructure, policies, and workflows to help with future integration of HathiTrust Resource Sharing into local lending practices. There will be 9 participants in this pilot project, including University of California Berkeley! Read the full pilot launch announcement here: HathiTrust Resource Sharing Pilot Now Underway
