Welcome Mihoko Hosoi as CDL’s New Assistant Director for Systemwide Licensing

Following an extensive national search, CDL’s Collection Development and Management Group is delighted to welcome Mihoko Hosoi as Assistant Director for Systemwide Licensing. Mihoko will report to Collections Director Ivy Anderson and begins her new position on March 23, 2016.

Mihoko brings extensive collection development and licensing experience to her new position, with 15 years of experience negotiating  and licensing hundreds of contracts for databases and other library materials. Most recently she served as Head, Collection Development & Strategy at the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University. Prior to her position at Stanford, Mihoko served as Head of Instruction and Research Services at the Nestle Library in the School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University. Mihoko led a variety of teams at both Cornell and Stanford, was an active participant in  the NERL Consortium, and collaborated on a national level with other consortial groups. She has also served as a Library Fellow in the Davidson Library at UC Santa Barbara, and as a Technical Services Specialist at Duke University. Mihoko is a past President of the Special Library Association (SLA), Silicon Valley Chapter, and received the Steelman Award for Mentoring from the Chapter, as well as serving on the Awards Committee of the College & University Business Libraries Section of SLA.

In her new position, Mihoko will have responsibility for negotiating licensing terms and conditions for scholarly content on behalf of the University of California Libraries and will manage a distributed licensing and collections support staff, including staff in Oakland responsible for business negotiations and ongoing management of shared digital resources and collections services staff at UC San Diego who provide acquisitions and shared cataloging services. She will also assist in facilitating collaborative decision making among UC Libraries collection managers and librarians responsible for shared content licensing.

Mihoko received her undergraduate degree from Seisen University in Tokyo, her MLS from the University of North Carolina, and a Master’s in Hospitality Management from Cornell University. She was awarded a membership in Beta Phi Mu, the international library and information studies honor society.
