Responsibilities

Responsible for initiating, developing, and coordinating the implementation and assessment of open access publisher agreements across a broad spectrum of publishing partners in support of UC’s transformative open access initiatives, ensuring that these agreements are effectively designed, managed, and integrated into library and publisher workflows.

Background

Before joining CDL in 2020, Ellen held several roles in the MIT Libraries related to advancing open access in the scholarly communications system.   Her responsibilities included outreach, and program and workflow development in scholarly communications, copyright, open access, licensing, and collection strategy.  Her responsibilities encompassed negotiating licenses and transformative open access agreements with publishers, with the aim of optimizing access and openness to scholarly resources.  Her two most recent titles were Head, Scholarly Communications and Collections Strategy, and Program Manager, Scholarly Publishing, Copyright, and Licensing.  Prior roles involved building digital resources acquisitions and licensing programs for the MIT Libraries.

Professional Interests

Ellen’s professional interest is in advancing open access to scholarly research. Areas of particular focus have been outreach and program/workflow development in scholarly communications, copyright, open access, licensing, and collection strategy.
