Responsibilities

As an ETL (Extraction, Transformation, and Loading) Specialist and Cataloger, Kate has lead responsibility for the weekly exchange of MARC data between the Shared Cataloging Program and the ten UC campus libraries. She develops and employs batch processes for large-scale data manipulation for bibliographic record maintenance and for the creation of bibliographic records, coordinating with SCP and UC staff as needed. She is responsible for processing the local holdings record files for OCLC WorldCat, and loading and exporting data out in and out of the UC San Diego Library’s integrated library system. She also has developed a variety of other batch data and file processes in support of SCP cataloging. She loads the OCLC Collection Manager daily report record updates and compiles weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly statistics for SCP record distribution and the same for our local title hook package update statistics. She serves as a SCP contact person for the UC campus systems liaisons group and is the SCP consultant for the various UC campuses regarding record distributions and file loading. She also performs original, enhance, and complex copy cataloging of online monographs and serials in all subject areas, creates NACO authority records and authenticates CONSER serials records in OCLC WorldCat.
